Teal'c is a Jaffa. As a result of   Teal'c having been implanted with a symbiote at the age of Eight he has powerfull healing abilities and also the ability to fight many viruses which the other members of SG1 cannot. This is one of the factor that makes Teal'c so important to the SGC. Teal'c joined SG1 as a resulting of helping the members of SG1 escape from a prison on his home world, Chulak while he was first prime to Aphopis. This made him a traitor in the eyes of the Goa'uld. Teal'c has become a member of SG1 in the hope that one day all Jaffa will become free as he has done and the Goa'uld will be defeated for good.
